88 About Me

Hi, my name is Aditi Tripathy and I am a junior at the University of Iowa. I am majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Global Health Studies. I am interested in going in to the medical field in the future, especially in the field of psychiatry. I am from Orissa, India but I was born in Toronto, Canada. I like to read, dance and be with my family during my free time.

I took this class because the course description sounded interesting. As someone in STEM, a lot of my classes focus on the social sciences and hard sciences aspects of things, which I do enjoy. However, I have not taken a class that allows me to express my artistic, musical or creative side in a very long time and not in my college years. I wanted to take a class where my interest in healthcare and my interest in humanities could meet in the middle and I was curious how they even could because I would not think it would be possible. Taking this class made me realize that as someone that wants to go into healthcare one day, my goal is not only to be a good provider but a compassionate one. It’s not enough to just be an academically smart and pass hard classes to one day work in a hospital. Being in healthcare requires patience, comfort, listening and most importantly empathy. Seeing the other perspective of healthcare from a “not strictly scientific aspect”  has been eye-opening for my future experiences.
