47 Reflection – Visiting the Stanley Museum

The birth and death unit resonated with me the most of all of our units. Visiting the Stanley  Museum is not something I normally do, or have time for, but going for our class I think was a beneficial activity  we did. The art shown in the gallery was an engaging way to characterize what the artist was trying to portray and depict to their audience. I enjoyed interpreting  Red April by Sam Gilliam the most specifically because it was so abstract, and there were a multitude of explanations about the meaning during our discussion. This artwork had long lasting effects on me, I believe, because of the social justice aspect of it. The artist created this artwork in memory of MLK to not allow us to forget the sad and racist history this country was built on. I wanted to include an image of the piece I am highlighting, in case anyone forgot.
