86 Reflections on Learning

What I know about using AI (Week 3)

Using AI as learning tool is like a double-edged sword. Use it the right way and it’ll be to your advantage. But use it the wrong way, and it’ll become a disadvantage. AI can be used as a stepping stone, a way to expand your ideas. For example, you can use AI to give ideas for a research topic, or maybe even use it to give you a thesis statement for an essay.  However, AI lacks emotion, making it sound too formal and sometimes even inhumane. Demanding an essay from an AI will spit out a paper that is lacking in emotion, but also a paper that is too perfect. AI should not be used to do everything for you, but instead be used for collaboration.

What I know now about health humanities (Week 3)

Health humanities focuses on other aspects of health besides medicine. Many factors contribute to health, such as race, social and physical environment, class, etc. Health humanities shine light on these factors to educate others and improve health care practices. To achieve this, we analyze patients’  and healers’ stories, readings, and more, to capture a better understanding of the other side of health care.

Active Listening

With day to day talking, I had thought I always had been active listening. But, this was not the case. Active listening requires you to actively engage in the conversation, respond and reflect, being able to summarize what you just listened to, ask for clarity, and ask questions. I had sat down with my friends from my hometown to catch up with them. We got really deep into some personal stuff that would not have usually been said. My friends had seen the way I was actively listening to them and began to open up more and more. They felt like someone was finally listening to them and I was glad I was able to help them.

Visual Art and its ties with Birth and Death

Birth and death is beautifully represented through visual art. When I went to the Stanley Art Museum, I saw many pieces of art that represented a multitude of cultures. What I took away from looking at this visual art is that visual art is used as a way of remembrance. In the museum, there were figures of twins that were born, but had passed away. These figures give family a way of remembrance of the twins, as if the twins were still alive with them. The visual art really stuck out to me because in my culture, lots of paintings are used in representation of birth and death. Visual art can bring comfort to families that are going through a rough time.
