82 About Me

My name is Alyssa Taylor, and I am a junior at the University of Iowa, majoring in biology with a pre-med focus. Originally from Toledo, Ohio, I chose Iowa to pursue my passion for both medicine and collegiate cheerleading in a Big Ten environment. I am deeply committed to improving mental health care, reflected in my involvement with research focused on innovative treatments for treatment-resistant depression. Additionally, I volunteer as a crisis text line counselor, where I offer support to individuals in need, honing my communication and empathy skills. As a future physician, I am passionate about patient-centered care and addressing mental health challenges. I believe that through effective communication, compassion, and a commitment to continuous learning, I can make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes. My experiences with my undergraduate degree and cheerleading have strengthened my leadership, resilience, and teamwork—qualities I look forward to applying throughout my career in medicine. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new coffee shops, and spending quality time with friends.
