How I learn

Being able to understand what you know is extremely easy compared to understanding how you know it and why you learnt it. Recalling information does not give you any insightful information about the process of how you know it. I believe if you can fully understand how you learn something the best and what you like to learn, it will allow you to be more excited about learning and make it much easier. For me, the best way to learn is by physically interacting with it. This could range from a lab experiment, writing something in paper, and talking back and forth to someone. I’ve always had trouble remembering something if it is just told to me or I have just read it. I transform these into ways that help me learn such as taking notes, creating notecards, and talking to people about the learnt material. By interacting with them I put focus and brain power into forming a strong memory for the information given. Learning can take motivation. Motivation may be high which makes learning easy but if motivation is low learning and studying can feel like a chore. You can’t avoid learning this you do not like. Passion can elicit many different motivating behaviors whether it be intrigue, excitement, wonder, or focus. Be able to understand what you are passionate about can allow these emotions to create that motivation to drive you into wanting to learn instead of feeling that learning is a burden. Throughout this course I have found what I am passionate about and how I can transform it to be memorable to myself. The greatest help to learning is being able to mold the way you are able to gather information to best suit yourself .

Active Listening: What is it

Active Listening is more then just listening to what someone says. It runs into a deeper connection with the speaker. To actively listen you need to be able to put all attention to the speaker, preferably looking them in the eyes, and focus on what they say. You do not focus on coming with a response or question to ask them. You just let them talk. When they are done you can reassure them by paraphrasing what they have said. It can be in “so then…” and “your saying…” type of statements. During my time practicing active listening, I found that being able to stay quiet while they other person shares their story, idea, or thought helps them to say everything they want to convey in a way they find to be enjoyable and or relaxing. It could be hard to keep focus and attention on them if they spoke of something uninteresting to myself, but I focused by listening carefully to each word they said trying to memorize them. The challenging part is trying to naturally phrase the paraphrased version of what they said. It may sound out of place or wrong but just saying the paraphrased words makes the speaker feel like you really listened and connected to what they were talking about. Now knowing everything I do about active listening, I found that it helps the listener better understand the speaker and the speaker to feel valued while they both connect better with each other.

AI learning

I have been well versed in many areas of AI. Throughout this class I have not learned how to use AI nor the ethical ramifications of how AI effects work quality and integrity. However, I have learned fantastic ways to apply my previous knowledge to get more positive outcomes. I had already known how to use AI to proofread written works, generate summaries, and re-explain or simplify complex topics.

Throughout this class I learned to use items like image generation to help convey complex ideas. Another example is being able to find similar information with sites like research rabbit. Being able to find similar sources makes the time staking hunt for sources much simpler and easier. This class didn’t teach the intricacies of how AI works but how to effectively use it to help create better products and be a more productive learner.

Final Reflection

In this class I learned a multitude of very important things such as being able to view different cultures with empathy and understanding, finding and understanding new alternate ways that healing can occur, or how health disparities affect many people in very different ways. These are very important things to learn due to being able to understand and help others through a growth perspective. However, from these topics what I learnt most was many different methods I can use to personally help someone in need. I am now better equipped at properly empathizing and relating to someone and helping them find ways to help heal both their mind and body. I also learned new skill sets like how to use AI in new ways to help create functional stepping stones for work, and different methods of metacognition and how it can be used to create better paths of questions and to create better behavior that is used to reflect on. Overall I learned from the material in the class, from the peers around me with wide perspectives, and from the outstanding professor. The material helped me create stepping stones to a path, the peers gave me motivations to want to cross, and the Professor gave motive and encouragement to want to cross.
