88 The Ancient Death Customs of the Bo People in Guizhou, China

This ancient tradition of the Bo people in Guizhou, China, involved suspending the dead several meters in the air off the face of a cliff. Inside these coffins, the bodies were wrapped in several layers of clothes and contained the personal belongings of the deceased. No one actually knows the reason for this ancient tradition but there are a few guesses. One is that it prevented people from scavenging through the coffins. Another is that they believed being higher up made it easier for their loved ones to reach heaven.
