Instructions for Students: Using Pressbooks
General instructions:
Your part of the book is the Part with your name on it. Please do not edit any part other than your own!
You will divide your part into Chapters. Think of each chapter as a new page, which you begin with a section (Textbox – see menu in Edit) and then add new sections – textboxes. One chapter will be About Me, another will be Learning Reflections, another will be Projects.
ALWAYS CLICK SAVE after you edit anything.
Chapter I: About me
Frame this in professional terms: Use the tone of a letter of introduction to a prospective employer, but instead of repeating your accomplishments – like a resume – present the details of your background and goals that are relevant to a course in health humanities (because that’s what this book comes from). You can mention interests, hobbies and passionate interests. Here’s an example from last year. Use a photo (click on Add Media at the top of the menu) that shows a professional side of you.
Chapter II: Learning Reflections
Start this chapter with a Textbox titled What it means to reflect on my learning. Don’t stress over “getting it right:” The goal of the learning portfolio is to show you (and me) your growth in this course. If you have concrete experiences and thoughts, write about those. If this is a new idea to you and you don’t really know what a learning reflection is or when and why a person would do one, try to imagine what that might look like/feel like.
An example of a learning reflection is in the next chapter.
