56 Introduction to Environmental Regulations Chapter

What is Environmental Regulation?

Environmental Regulation is implemented through rules, laws, or acts to combat negative environmental effects. According to the International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences, Environmental Regulation is any state intervention in the market in order to protect the environment, be it by general rules or individual action (International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2025). In this chapter, we will focus on three main subtopics of environmental regulation, which are Air Quality, Water Quality, and Land Conservation. These three topics are absolutely crucial to a healthy planet including the condition of our climate, environment, and well being of the public. In this chapter focusing on Environmental Regulation, we will explore Air Quality, Water Quality and Land Conservation on a state/local level, country level (United States), and global level. (AKG)
