17 Introduction

Climate change is an extremely important topic right now. It’s everywhere in the news, and for good reason. The Earth is warming at a rapid rate, and it is having a noticeable effect on humanity and our environment. Despite this, progress is slow, and we are far from meeting major climate action goals. Climate change affects different regions of the world differently and at different magnitudes. Therefore, in order to address all its causes, interventions need to be implemented at different levels, namely at the local, state, national, and global level. This section will begin with a discussion of the science of climate change and some of the effects it’s having globally, as well as a short discussion on promising interventions. It will continue with a discussion of climate change issues at the national level in the United States. And it will conclude with a discussion of climate change issues at the state and local level.
