14 ICON Direct

ICON Direct allows instructors to order digital content through specific publishers that can be accessed through ICON by both students and instructors. These materials cost money but are far cheaper for students than traditional textbooks, and if any student would prefer to opt out of the digital content that option is available to them at the beginning of the semester. There are over 20 publishers available through ICON direct including: McGraw Hill, Pearson, Wiley, Macmillan, and Cengage.

Now onto how to use it:

The first step is to open and log into ICON Direct and select the class you want to choose materials for.

Next, you select materials. To do this you can use the search bar and the checkboxes below it. They allow you to sort by publisher to easily find the right content.

On the ICON direct page an arrow points to the in-built search bar.

If the materials you need are not available, you can click Submit a content request. This will let you do exactly as the button describes and hopefully get the material available through ICON Direct for your class.

On ICON direct an arrow points to a blue link in the upper right.

To review:

  1. First, you’ll select your chosen resource through the Order Tool.
  2. Your students will access the content through their ICON course site.
  3. Students will have the opportunity to opt-out using the Unizin Student Choice platform. This isn’t recommended– if a student chooses to opt-out, they won’t have access to the resource and corresponding assignments.
  4. They’ll receive any relevant charges on their U-Bill.

An arrow flow chart is displayed with the following content: Materials are ordered and displayed in MYUI/Maui, students are granted access to the materials through ICON, students are given an opt out period, and students are billed for materials through UBill.
