13 Chapter 13 – HOW DO I ADVOCATE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE? (SJ #5)
This chapter supports Module 13 in which you will:
- Advocate for policies informed by the points of view of those who are most directly harmed by racist policies and systems of oppression.

In earlier chapters we studied the importance of registering and engaging voters — and reducing barriers for them to vote. We also spent time on policies and policy efforts to suppress voting, especially of those in socially disadvantaged groups. The Bolder Advocacy podcast reminds us that even if we help people register to vote and help them get to the polls, there may still be obstacles once they get there — and we need to be ready for those and prepare others for them too.
In this chapter’s installment of our Nebraska League of Women Voters’ workshop, we learn about how important volunteers are to a campaign and how we can recruit, train, support, and thank them. This is good learning too, for us as we consider volunteering for a campaign. It’s a good way to help people get elected that are allied with us and others on important issues — such as Kelli Soyer who shares her experience as a Des Moines Public Schools’ board member.
