8 Chapter 8 – HOW CAN I IMPACT SOCIAL CHANGE?
This chapter supports Module 8 in which you will:
- Explore possibilities for holding elected office and how social work can make a difference
**********************************************************
Starting with this chapter, we turn our attention toward how social workers can make a difference in elected office — and influence those in elected office. Pence and Kaiser interview social workers that hold office and offer us a glimpse into the social work skills and values they use in that kind of practice. We’re also starting to explore what it takes to run for office. Some foreshadowing: It’s not mysterious. It can be done piece by piece, step by step, as with most of the other things we do in social work practice. There are frameworks and evidence and experience-informed best practices. The Nebraska League of Women Voters provide us with a workshop about how to run for office. This is the beginning of learning the steps.
