Appendix 1: Diagram of the Iowa Court System

Appeals in the Iowa state court system are first filed with the Iowa Supreme Court, which may choose to retain the appeal for itself or transfer it to the Iowa Court of Appeals. A party to the appeal may seek further review by the Iowa Supreme Court of a decision of the Iowa Court of Appeals.  See Iowa Code Ch. 602.4102, 602.5103.
