11 Spelling and Capitalization
Spelling
To check the spelling of words for your Pressbook, use an online dictionary like the Merriam-Webster Dictionary or Dictionary.com.
See the appendix chapter titled American Spellings and Word List for reference of common American spellings and abbreviations of words.
Capitalization
- Capitalize:
- the first letter of a new sentence
- the pronoun I for first-person writing
- names and initials
- titles that precede personal names
- months of the year and days of the week
- musical notes and academic grades (A, B, C, etc.)
- alphabet keys in reference to a computer keyboard
- abbreviations for file formats
- Do not capitalize:
- the first letter of a word after a colon
