What Do the Experts Say?
University of Iowa Student Disability Services recommends implementing a course policy on the following:
- Beginning a course with a clear policy on absences can create a more equitable classroom.
- Sharing course notes for students who are absent from class or are otherwise unable to take their own notes on material discussed within the classroom has become more feasible with the rise of online learning and therefore sharing capacity.
- One way to facilitate note-sharing is rotating which students are sharing their personal notes via ICON. Many instructors utilize this method on either a volunteer or assigned basis as it does not place the burden of note-taking on one or two students and offers more than the instructor’s course notes.
