FAQ

When should I start looking for an internship?

Each organization follows its own recruitment schedule, but Pomerantz Career Center recommends that a student should begin the process 6-9 months in advance of when they hope to participate in an internship.

What should international students consider in their internship search?

International students, please carefully review the employment options available to you and consult with an ISSS advisor regarding your specific situation.

How do I register my internship for transcript notation or academic credit?

Pomerantz Career Center: You must have a confirmed internship prior to registering for an internship course. Please see https://careers.uiowa.edu/students/reporting-credit-options for options and directions.

Academic Department: Contact your academic advisor or the departmental internship coordinator to find out whether your major department offers an internship course, whether you would be eligible to use the course, and whether their internship would qualify for academic credit.

What about micro-internships?

If you are not feeling ready for a full internship, consider micro-internships.  Micro-internships are short-term, paid professional projects for students and recent graduates.  They typically range from 5-40 hours of work over 1-4 weeks, depending on the project. To find a micro-internship, create an account on the Parker Dewey platform, browse and apply.  Please see  https://careers.uiowa.edu/internships/micro-internships for more information.
