18 Project 2 – Un día en la vida de un estudiante (University of Iowa)

For this project, you will create a video blog (you can use PowerPoint, iMovie, etc) presentation about your daily routine, the things that interest you, and the things you like about Iowa City. This is an individual project, but once you have recorded the video, you will post it on ICON as a discussion post.

You will work on this project in class to outline your ideas and get started on your script. After that, you will record a video (duration 1 – 1:30 minutes, with your spoken narration, and at least 6 pictures). Finally, you will watch at least 2 classmates’ videos and react to them.

STEP 1. Plan your video

  1. Starting in the morning, write out your typical day in Iowa (including the time and the activity). Think of 4-6 activities and include reflexive and non-reflexive verbs. (Modelo: 07:00-Me despierto). Be sure to include at least three frequency expressions from the 6AB vocabulary list.
  2. Encuentra 3-4 fotos de tu rutina típica y describe lo que estás haciendo en las fotos. (You will be using the present progressive).
    • En esta foto…
  3. ¿Qué te interesa (this is a verb like gustar)? Include 2-3 things.
  4. ¿Qué lugares te encantan (this is also a verb like gustar) en Iowa City? (Por ejemplo, puedes hablar de monumentos, restaurantes, museos, parques, tiendas, etc.) ¿Por qué? Include 2-3 places.

STEP 2. Outline your presentation

Make a timeline of your day or a list of key verbs you will use. Then organize your presentation into sections based on Paso 1. Write down the title of each section and the main ideas you will cover. Identify pictures you will be using for each portion.

STEP 3. Write your script

Start writing your script for your video. Use complete sentences for your spoken narration, but remember that for the slides you should only use pictures and some key words.

Once you are done, read it a few times out loud and practice pronunciation before recording the video.

STEP 4. Record your video

Start recording your video. You can use the built-in tool within Powerpoint, or Zoom or any other tool you prefer.

  • Speak clearly and naturally
  • Make sure your voice is audible
  • Record in a quiet place

STEP 5. Upload your video

Upload your video to the discussion board on ICON called Project 2 and that corresponds to the name/number of your class section.

STEP 6. Encuentra un gemelo (twin)

Watch at least two classmates’ videos, and leave a reaction to both videos. Your reaction should be limited to the following:

  • ¡Somos gemelos! – if you have a very similar routine
  • ¡Qué diferente! – if their routine is the opposite from yours
  • ¡Eso suena divertido! – if you find something interesting or cool, make sure to replace “eso” with the thing you find interesting.
