32 Project 4 – Vlog: ¡De compras en mi viaje! (University of Iowa)
For this project, you will record a video blog (vlog) about a real or imaginary trip you took, the shopping experiences you had, and the things you bought (similar to an Instagram haul video). You will practice vocabulary related to las tiendas, el mercado al aire libre, and las compras (Vocabulary lists). Since this project is about a past experience, you will be using the preterite tense to talk about your past actions (08AB Grammar + 07CD Grammar).
You will primarily work on this project in class and then upload your final video to ICON. Your vlog should be 1:30–2:00 minutes long.
STEP 1. Mi viaje.
First, start thinking about a real or an imaginary trip you took. Then, answer the following questions in complete sentences:
- ¿A dónde fuiste? (país, ciudad o lugar)
-
¿Con quién viajaste?
-
¿Qué tipo de viaje fue? (vacaciones, excursión, viaje con familia, etc.)
Ejemplo: El mes pasado viajé a Buenos Aires con mis amigas. Fuimos de vacaciones por una semana y visitamos muchos lugares interesantes.
STEP 2. Las tiendas.
Think about at least three types of stores you visited on your trip. Use Google Maps to find real stores in that location (even if your trip is imaginary). Make sure to save some of the pictures from each store on your computer, so you can use them in your vlog.

Fill out the chart below, and include the name of the store, the type of store, and at least two products they sell.
Nombre de la tienda | Tipo de tienda | ¿Qué venden? (2 productos) |
Modelo: El Ateneo Grand Splendid | Librería | libros, cuadernos, café |

STEP 3. Tu botín.
Write down three things you bought during your trip. For each item, include the answer to the following questions.
-
¿Qué compraste?
-
¿En qué tienda?
-
¿Cuánto costó? / ¿Cuánto pagaste por el artículo?
-
¿Para quién o por qué compraste este artículo?
-
Una descripción breve (color, tamaño, estilo, etc.)
STEP 4. Entrevista tu compañera.
Now that you’ve written about the things you bought, talk to a classmate and ask them about their shopping experience during their trip. Use the same questions from Step 3. Take notes about the things your friend bought. Make sure that you practice asking the questions out loud, and try getting some ideas for your vlog.
STEP 5. Tu botín.
Wrap up your video with 1–2 general comments about your shopping experience. The following questions might help you write these last few sentences.
- ¿Fue divertido?
- ¿Te gustaron las tiendas?
- ¿Recomiendas este lugar o estos artículos de compras?
STEP 5. El guion.
Use the answers from Steps 1–5 to prepare a cohesive and creative script for your vlog. Your video should include the following parts:
Introducción
Preséntate y explica a dónde fuiste y con quién.
Modelo: Hola, me llamo… Yo …
Tu botín
Muestra y describe lo que compraste (puedes mostrar objetos reales, imágenes impresas, o en tu celular)
Modelo: Ahora les voy a mostrar lo que compré:
Comentarios finales
¿Cómo fue la experiencia?
Make sure that you use complete sentences, transition words, and that you use the preterite. You should also use words from the vocabulary list 08AB.
STEP 6. Tu vlog.
Start recording your vlog. You can use your phone or the webcam from your computer. Make sure that you are in a quiet environment so that your professor and your classmates will be able to enjoy your video. The video should be between 1:30 to 2:00 minutes.
Once you are done upload your story your class discussion section on ICON by the deadline provided by your instructor.
STEP 7. Comentarios.
By the assigned day, watch your assigned partner’s video and reply to their discussion post with two written comments and one question in Spanish about their trip and/or their shopping haul.
