27 Project 3 – ¿Mi amiga imaginaria? (University of Iowa)

When we were kids, many of us had an imaginary friend (or creature). For this project, you will write about a real or an imaginary friend you used to have when you were a kid and some of the things you used to do together. You will be using all the grammar you learned until this point, with a specific focus on the imperfect (7AB).

Be sure to use complete sentences for all your answers below. 

You will work on this project in class and then upload the final writing on ICON. Your final writing should be between 125-160 words.

STEP 1. Your Childhood Friend

First, think about a friend you had when you were a kid. This friend can be a real person, an imaginary friend, or a magical creature.

Answer the following questions about your friend.

• ¿Cómo se llamaba?
  • …

• ¿Cómo era físicamente? (alto, bajo, fuerte, delgado, pelirrojo, etc.). Write at least 2 sentences.
  • …

• ¿Cómo era su personalidad? (divertido, tímido, travieso, valiente, etc.) Write 2-3 sentences.
  • …

STEP 2. ¿Imaginario o real?

Your instructor will divide you into groups of 4-5 students. Each person will take turns describing their childhood friend out loud using the imperfect tense. The other students will then vote on whether the friend was real or imaginary.

STEP 3. Aventuras al aire libre.

Write a series of at least 4 sentences about the adventures you had when you were young. Make sure to use lexicon and verbs from (07AB Vocabulary List). The questions below might help you in your writing.

• ¿Dónde jugaban? ¿En la playa, en el parque acuático, en las montañas, en el bosque?
• ¿Qué hacían? ¿Exploraban lugares, escalaban montañas, montaban en bicicleta, iban de camping?

STEP 4. ¿Deportes o música?

Did you enjoy playing sports together or playing/listening to the music? Write a series of at least 4 sentences about music, sports or both. Use the imperfect tense to describe your past habits and activities. You can use words about deportes and música from the vocabulary list 07CD.

Some questions that might help you with this paragraph.

• ¿Practicaban algún deporte juntos?
• ¿Qué tipo de música escuchaban?
• ¿Tocaban algún instrumento o cantaban juntos?

STEP 5. Write your story

Collect all the ideas and sentences you wrote in the previous steps and create a cohesive story about your friend.

Make sure you have…

• separated your story into at least two paragraphs (the first paragraph should describe your friend and the second should describe what you used to do together)
• employed transitions and linking words between sentences and paragraphs
• read it over for agreement and other grammatical mistakes
• cited in parentheses ANY outside use of online translators or AI

Once you are done upload your story to ICON by the deadline provided by your instructor.
