Preparing to teach

Social Work Clinical Assistant Professor Yolanda Spears teaching at the front of a classroom.

In this section, you will prepare for the first days of class by reflecting on your learning and teaching experience, planning for building a support network, considering your role and social identity in the classroom, and learning more about your students.

💡 Brainstorming goals for this semester:

To start, please draft potential goals connected to your teaching and professional development for this semester. They can be related to helping your students succeed in the course, implementing a new evidence-based teaching strategy, learning your students’ names and their correct pronunciations, participating in professional development events, or providing timely feedback. For example, this semester I plan to have a colleague observe my teaching and discuss their observations.

It will be easier to leverage your goals if they are measurable and attainable.
