Dr. Wallace traces the history of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health in the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He describes the historical relationship of the Department to the College of Public Health, founded in 1999. Dr. Wallace points out that a central thread leading to the formation of the CPH was the PMEH Department which formed the nucleus and three of the five departments of the CPH: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Occupational and Environmental Health where he emphasizes the importance of research related to agricultural health, especially rural and farm safety, injury prevention research, health effects of peesticide exposure, veterinary exposures, and rural industrial occupational health consulting.
