32 Lesson 4B

1. Conversar. Henry is trying to decide what his two nieces would like to do when they come visit him. Based on their text messages, help Henry pick the right activities for them.

2. Hablar. Lo que me gusta.

3. Decidir. Your instructor is going to provide you with some sentences about themselves that are true and false using the verb gustar. Stand up and move to the RIGHT side of the room if you think the information is Cierto and to the LEFT side of the room if you think it is Falso.

Modelo: Al  profesor le gusta bailar salsa. (Es cierto, so the students who moved to the right side of the room are correct).

4. Practicar. Read the following paragraph about what Roxana and her friend like and don’t like. Make sure to use the correct pronoun (me, te, le, nos, os, les) for the person with the verb gustar.

5. Conjugar. Read the following dialogue between two roommates planning their weekly grocery trip. Conjugate the verb in parenthesis based on their conversation.

6. Escribir. With a partner, think about a conversation between two roommates who are planning their weekly shopping trip together.

Paso 1. Write out their conversation. Think about what you want/prefer or don’t want/prefer to have for food this week. Make sure to have plenty of examples of things you like/want and why.

Paso 2. Perform your dialogue for the class, with each of you taking the role of one of the roommates.

7. Jugar. Dos verdades y una mentira (Two Truths and a Lie).

Paso 1: Using the verb gustar, think of two things about yourself that are true and one that is a lie. Tell your partner the three things and they will try to guess which one is the lie.

Paso 2: Now let’s take the information and make a master list of some of our classmates’ truths and lies. Be sure to use the él/ella/elle/Usted form!

9.  Leer. Read the short paragraph about El Caldillo De Congrio, and answer the following questions.

Este plato es una sopa de pescado que es el congrio dorado (pink-cusk-eel). Esta receta lleva cabeza de pescado, cebolla, ajo, cilantro, zanahorias, tomates, papas y mucho caldo. Está muy sabroso y es especial para comer en invierno cuando hace frío.

10.  Entrevistar. Take turns asking your partner the following questions about food preferences and restaurants in your university town. Be sure to answer using complete sentences!

11. Conjugar. Read the following sentences about roommates planning their weekly meals. Conjugate the verb in parenthesis based on their preferences.

12. Conversar. Open the menu from the famous restaurant El Pollo Gordo and with 2 classmates role play a dialogue similar to the model.

13.  Crear. Talking about food in Spanish sparked your imagination and you and your classmates decide to open a restaurant. 

Paso 1. Decide the type of cuisine your restaurant will be serving.

Paso 2. The cuisine you picked sounds great. Can you pick a name for your restaurant? You can decide if the name is based on the food you will be serving and if you want it to be funny or serious. One condition…since we all love Spanish, the name must be in Spanish.

• ¿Cómo se llama su restaurante?

Paso 3. It is time to start thinking about what dishes you will be serving. Individually, do research about the type of cuisine you picked and write down a list of 5 dishes you would like to serve.

Paso 4. Opening day is coming soon. You do not have much time, so you and your partner need to pick 6 dishes that you will be serving and design a menu. The menu should have the name of the dishes, the main ingredients, and the prices. Work together as a group to select the best dishes and draw a menu (you can do it on your computer or with pen and paper).

Paso 5. Visit another group’s restaurant, and write a short review of it based on the menu. Don’t forget to give it a rating (between 1 and 5 estrellas).
