Il pronome ci
The Italian pronoun ci is used immediately before a conjugated verb to replace the following phrases:

Non credo ai fantasmi. Non ci ho mai creduto. (I don’t believe in ghosts. I’ve never believed in them.)

Ho mangiato troppi biscotti. Ne ho mangiati* nove! (I ate too many cookies. I ate nine [of them]!) |
* When ne replaces an expression of quantity and precedes a passato prossimo, the participio passato (past participle) must agree with the noun that is replaced.
Ho comprato molti libri. Ne ho comprati dodici. (I bought a lot of books. I bought twelve [of them].)
Il professore ha fatto molte domande. Ne ha fatte troppe! (The professor asked a lot of questions. He asked too many [of them]!)
