Volunteering

Students are working with Habitat for Humanity by measuring and cutting material for a new house.
College of Public Health Day of Service with Habitat for Humanity. Students are measuring and cutting material for a new house.

Are you ready to understand what it means to be a part of the Hawkeye family and make the Johnson County community feel like home? Service helps you clarify your values and connect what you are learning in the classroom to the world around you.

Serving others helps you gain confidence, communication and teamwork skills, all while giving back and promoting social responsibility.

Service can include various levels of commitment from a one-time event like Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service to a semester long commitment with a local non-profit.

There are more immersive opportunities, such as participating in a service-learning course, alternative break or volunteer summer internship. You can also join a service-based student organization.

There are many opportunities to fit your schedule and service goals!

How to Get Involved

To learn more about service opportunities, explore the Leadership, Service, and Civic Engagement website.

Then, log into MyUI and schedule an appointment with the Volunteer Engagement Manager. Select “Volunteer and Service Opportunities” to see available times to meet.

You can also make an appointment with a career advisor in the Pomerantz Career Center to discuss other service opportunities related to your major and career goals. Meet the challenge today, serve!
